Unattended ground sensors (UGS's)

Back when I started work in the late 1970's, a co-worker had a military surplus motion sensor from the Vietnam war.  It looked like a rock with a short wire antenna hanging out of it.  At the time, I thought it was a cool desk-top conversation piece.  I now know these have a name and are still being used.  The battery in the one he had was long since run down but the new ones are solar powered and could operate for decades.  I still think it would be cool to have one.  Wired Danger Room - This Rock Could Spy on You for Decades (5/29, Schachtman)
