A-Bomb test at Yucca Flats 1957

This post is an attempt to keep up with the Joneses or, more accurately, to keep up with High Power Rocketry. Lately, R2K has been posting some interesting historical videos about our atomic/nuclear program.  So, this is the Dungeon's response :)

Several years ago, I found this photo showing a mushroom cloud rising 40,000 ft over the Nevada Test Site, a mere 65 miles away form Las Vegas. This was also in 1957.

And, how could I resist these atomic girls?  The first is a ballerina dancing in front of what is reported to be the 1953 Upshot-Knothole Dixie test.  Photo courtesy of National Nuclear Security Administration / Nevada Site Office.  Back when a-tests were a real party?  There is some more history on You Are Beautiful. The photo below that is Miss Atomic Bomb, a.k.a. Lee Merlin (1957).
