This photo brought back many memories. As a kid, I would sit on the beach and watch the airplanes land at the North Island Naval Air Station. You'd see them off shore in the distance and they would eventually cross the beach (to the left of the posted image) as they landed. They were fairly low at that point and were a lot of fun to watch. One time, a cone-like object fell off of one of them! It landed close to me and I was first on the scene. Being quite young, the life guard took possession and supposely contacted the Navy next door. I aways thought he took it back home with him. I suspect if he didn't confiscate it my parents would have anyway.
