Discovery and Enterprise at the Udvar-Hazy Center

Today, Space Shuttle Discovery was formally signed over to the National Air and Space Museum.  The highlight of the ceremonies was the opportunity to see two Shuttles, Enterprise and Discovery, together at the same time. We arrived at the Udvar-Hazy Center at about 10:45 and were happily surprised that there were still plenty of parking spots. There were several special items on display (including the Shuttles!) and lots of activities for kids. The hangar area where Enterprise has been was closed, as was the upper observation walkway. It was a great outing! Here are just a few of our many photos.

I thought I saw a rocket...

Enterprise was on display before Discovery was wheeled up.

Waiting in the wings.

Here she is.

It was so awesome to see them nose-to-nose.

There were several speeches, including one by Senator and Astronaut John Glenn. Around 20 astronauts who flew on Discovery were present.

Here's the Orion Capsule that was used for the Launch Abort tests.  The clear window was added to display the innards.
