Early New Years woes for Spaceport America

A reader pointed me to this Las Cruces Sun-News article - Space launch facility on hold. It appears there's been a difugalty with their environmental impact statement (EIS) and the groundbreaking has been moved to November. It seems that the FAA was concerned that having the New Mexico State University Physical Science Laboratory prepare the EIS presented a conflict of interest. So, Spaceport officials retained California-based Tetra Tech to complete the document. Unfortunately, it appears some of the existing data fell in the crack during the transfer. Sounds fishy to me. Tell me a technical branch of NMSU has never heard of backups.

Officials say this won't impact the 2010 opening. Tax problems, documentation problems...it is going to be a bumpy road to space, methinks.
